Pacific Biofert founder Clive Sinclair was originally farming pigs near Waiuku. He was interested how to make organic pig feed using waste products and came up with the process to create a liquid pig food using fish offal. This product was highly palatable and nutritious for the pigs, however the pig meat started to taste “fishy”. Due to this, Clive changed his ideas and focused on making a stable organic liquid fertiliser range to grow healthy plants and crops. After a couple years of innovation, Moana Natural was finalized.
Throughout the years, Pacific Biofert has moved to its current site of Pokeno, and Clive’s eldest son Bill has taken over as managing director. From the establishment of Clive’s original product, Pacific Biofert has continuously innovated more fertiliser products. This includes the extension of the Moana liquid range from different fish liquids to key chelates for essential nutrients. With the liquids providing essential micronutrients, Pacific Biofert needed to find a solution to be able to put macronutrients on farm. This spearheaded the design and manufacturing of our solid certified organic range, including BioPhos, BioLime, and Biofert TE. Being able to use both organic and conventional fertilisers has enabled Pacific Biofert to supply a range of products suitable for both agriculture and horticulture. Both Bill and Clive share the same passion of improving soil health through feeding the biology within the soil, whether using organic or conventional methods.
In the years to come, the Pacific Biofert team will innovate continuously to follow Clive’s original philosophical ideals “to create a better environment through improving the health of the soil”. This will improve health in the water ways and air quality to benefit future generations.
